How They Met?

They both met over a beach clean drive, and that’s where their love story began! The couple’s mutual passion for the environment brought them closer and they soon made it a weekend ritual. So naturally, when they decided to tie the knot they had to have a minimal waste wedding.

Ashwin And Nupur’s Green Wedding Idea

On an average, every Indian wedding generates 30-40 kg of waste including a majority of plastic waste. Thus, they looked out for eco-friendly options for catering, decoration, clothing and travel while planning their wedding. With an aim to motivate more people, the couple made it their goal to make it a plastic-free wedding and spread a word about the same with as many people as they can.

The couple encourages everyone to start working towards a sustainable life as even small changes in lifestyle can make a difference. From replacing plastic bottles with glass bottles to completely ditching the use of straws, the couple shares little tricks to save the planet on an individual level.

Their Eco-Friendly Wedding Planning

Ashwin Malwade, a chief officer in the Merchant Navy and Nupur Agarwal, a marketing professional, made sure that no harm was caused to the environment by their celebrations. They have been cleaning the beaches for more than three years now and have their mentor Afroz Shah to thank. He is the one who sparked the environment consciousness within them.

Choice Of Wedding Venue

Ashwin and Nupur consciously chose Pune as their wedding destination as the city has a very evolved recycling system.

Upcycled Wedding Decor

The couple spent months planning their wedding decor. For Ashwin and Nupur, it was about keeping it basic and using upcycled material. Of course, they used flowers but made sure that they got into composting the very next day.

Organic Wedding Outfits

The outfits of the bride and the groom were completely handmade using organic cotton. Nupur’s bridal lehenga was from Falguni Designs with personalized message i.e. #BeatPlasticPollution and #SaveThePlanet embroidered on it. On the other hand, Ashwin’s sherwani from TISA Studios had #ClimateCrisis embroidered on it.

Eco-Friendly Baraat Ideas

Ditching the concept of a regular baraat which involves a beautifully adorned ghodi, Ashwin chose to enter driving an electric car instead.

Green Wedding Ideas

To make it up for the carbon emissions, the couple decided to plant four trees for every guest that showed up at their wedding. They had already planted a couple of saplings before their D-day.

Green Wedding Catering Ideas

Segregation of food waste is extremely important for easy recycling. The couple made sure that the entire waste was segregated into dry and wet waste and even encouraged their caterers to follow the same guidelines for their other weddings as well. They further used bagasse products instead of plastic for the wedding crockery.

Well, Ashwin and  Nupur’s green wedding was one hell of a thoughtful affair and we absolutely adore them for giving the environment their first priority.
