While India hasn’t legally recognized same-sex marriages, two female doctors had a ‘commitment ring ceremony’ in Nagpur to profess their love. Dr Surbhi Mitra and Paromita Mukherjee were not ones to let laws become an obstacle in their love story. They planned and celebrated a ‘commitment ring ceremony’ officialising their relationship. Both their parents are very supportive of their choices and accepted their love with open arms.

They first met each other at a mental health conference in Kolkata. That was when they exchanged their numbers and started talking to each other. Paromita shares that the engagement ceremony was planned on very short notice. And their friends attended the ceremony via Google meet.

But they plan to have a big destination wedding in Goa with all their loved ones in attendance. Surbhi and Paromita will be having a proper Hindu wedding all the dhoom-dhaam. The two vowed to spend their lives together as a couple in their commitment ceremony. And are rumoured to tie the knot later in 2022 or early 2023.
