A Phool Muddi ceremony is one of the many Konkani wedding rituals. Phool Muddi actually means flower and ring. And the ritual consists of both these elements. In this ceremony, the bride’s father presents the groom with a ring and new sets of clothing. And the groom’s mother gifts the bride jasmine flowers which are called ‘Sohn Phool’ along with gold flowers and a new set of clothes as well. The ‘Sohn Phool’ is donned by the bride over her head as a part of the tradition. After all this, the married women of the family perform aarti of both the bride and groom and shower them with unbroken rice grains. The unbroken rice grains are believed to bring prosperity.
