Know All About These Women Who Are The Real Heroes –
1. Monica Singh, Acid Attack Survivor
Monica Singh is an award-winning speaker, a fashion designer, an influencer, a businesswoman and the founder and president of the Mahendra Singh Foundation and also an acid attack survivor.
She was 19 when she rejected a proposal from a man who was apparently her friend and one fine day in Lucknow a biker threw acid on her face. The whole of her next year was spent in a hospital bed, struggling. She required 46 surgeries and took her over a year to just start moving and to regain speech.
Her father motivated her always and she got into Parsons School of Design and that’s when her dreams came true. We absolutely applaud her resilience and grit determination.
We admire her for her courage and determination to achieve whatever she had dreamt and hoped for.
2. Manya Singh, Miss India Runner Up
At the age of 14, she left her village and went to Mumbai to pursue her dreams and started working at Pizza Hut and got a temporary place to stay. Her father was an auto-rickshaw driver and still managed to give her everything she needed. When she was 15, she saw the Miss India pageant for the first time and had her eye on that crown since then.
Her uncle would say, ‘Ladkiyon ko padhai karke bhi shaadi hi karni padti hai.’
She auditioned for over 10 pageants, but they’d say, ‘Shakal achi nahi hai’ or ‘You don’t even know English!’
Because of the pandemic, she gave all her interviews online from her 10*10 slum. Once, when she spoke about her father being an auto driver, people said, ‘You’re just trying to get attention’.
And 2 months later, she was declared the VLCC Femina Miss India 2020 – Runner Up.
We admire her for her will to succeed and overcome all obstacles.
3. Maya VIshwakarma, Founder Of Sukarma Foundation
Maya Vishwakarma comes from a village in MP. She was 12 when she got her period and her mother made her wear a cloth pad. She developed a vaginal infection and began giving off a terrible odor too. The local doctors were clueless, so she just lived with it. She completed her schooling and fortunately her parents wanted her to focus on her education. They took loans to send her to college where she studied biochemistry and got a job at a hospital.
She went door-to-door encouraging women to use pads. Through her campaigns, she met Arunachalam Muruganantham, The Padman. He told her to start her own factory and educate more women. In 2016, she started ‘The Sukarma Foundation’ and hired women from her village to teach households how to use pads. Today, she transports 50,000 pads per month to 22 districts in MP.
We salute this powerful lady who didn’t stop in spreading awareness about mensuration especially for the less educated citizens.

4. Jessy Prasanthi, DSP
Her father was her only hero, who was a sub-inspector. Once, when she went with him for patrolling, she saw everyone saluting him. She didn’t understand the meaning, but since that day even she started saluting him every morning. But it was when she was older that she truly understood the risks he took and the sacrifices he made. He was the senior who always prioritised his team and made sure everyone got home safe before he did.
Over the years, his driving force became hers. And when Jessy had to choose her career path, without a second thought, she began preparing for the civil service exam. She took the exam in 2018 and joined in as a DSP.
It’s been 2 years since she joined the force and it’s not easy. Earlier it was her father, but now it’s her who’s staying away from family. She barely gets to sleep and every other day, she walks into a pool of blood and witnesses dead bodies.
We admire her for her choice of being in Police services, staying away from her family and following her father’s footsteps.
5. Hima Das, DSP Of Assam
Also known as ‘Dhing Express’, Hima Das is a 19-year-old Indian sprinter from the state of Assam. She became the first Indian woman, indeed the first ever Indian athlete to win a gold medal in any format of a global track event at IAAF World U20 Championships. She holds the current Indian national record in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. Hima Das revealed that she had dreamt of becoming a police officer when she was young.
Hima is just 21 years old and has taken up the responsibility of DSP of Assam. We salute her for being so confident and she also said she will continue to strive for excellence in her sport alongside her job in state police.
6. Archana Jayaram, Assistant School Teacher
Archana Jayaram is just 28 years old and a lady that wears many hats. She has cycled in the Olympics, played basketball and has also acted in a movie. She is also an assistant teacher at Sri Prashanthi Academy, a school for intellectually challenged children. She has Down Syndrome but that doesn’t pull her down. We salute her spirit and wish for every woman to be strong and confident like her.
7. Rekha Mishra, RPF Sub-Inspector
Rekha is RPF Sub-Inspector Rekha Mishra, posted with the Central Railway. She is credited with rescuing hundreds of destitute, missing, kidnapped or runaway children from various railway stations on the network in the past few years. In spite of doing such commendable work for our society, she has to hear criticisms regarding her work. Rekha has also been awarded with the ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ in 2017 by the President, Ram Nath Kovind and we have nothing but pride in our eyes for her.
Well, we salute these bold and brave women and wish every other woman out there a very Happy International Women’s Day.
