While we were in a tete-a-tete with jewellery designer Rahul Luthra at his store in Karol Bagh, we discovered a colossal variety of Indian jewellery that exists and learnt about the different materials, the techniques and the types, some of which took us by surprise.
Going into the depth of the selection of bridal jewellery, Rahul mentioned, “Brides these days want to customise even the tiniest part of their jewellery, from the nath to the hath-phools, they want every detail to be given importance.”
That’s when we knew we had to make a bridal jewellery checklist!
What are the jewellery pieces that every bride needs traditionally or wants in her bridal box? These 18 items, we’d say.
Of course, every custom has a lot more things that are included, but these jewels definitely find their way in most of the Indian weddings.
1. Kalira
These are a must-haves for a Punjabi bride. Every kalira that is tied denotes good wishes that friends and family passes on to the bride. They are super special, we agree and significant too, so why not ditch the regular ones and go for this statement kaliras with the leaf hangings.

2. Head Ornaments
Headgears are making their way into ethnic fashion as the newest endorsement for the bridal look. They go well with the cocktail outfit and add more glamour to the mehendi look too. Actress, Hrishitaa Bhatt looked amazing in hers.

3. Satlada Haar
You may have a stock of long kundan necklaces and Rani Haars, but a Satlada is something you need to include as a 2017 bride. This seven layered necklace with tiny pearls and stones add a graceful look to your ensemble. Sabyasachi’s models and Aishwarya Rai in Jodha Akbar have both flaunted this in the recent times.

6. Passa
This fan shaped jewellry is worn on the left side of the head. Made of gold, silver, pearl, kundan or crystals materials, this antique piece gives the ideal majestic look. Though it also goes well with lehenga and choli but a zardosi bridal gown and a passa is one opulent combination. How can we forget Anushka in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil?

Sonam Kapoor floored everyone with her nose ring from Raabta by Rahul at Cannes in 2013. Do we need to convince you even more why you shouldn’t be ditching nose ring? This model is wearing a bridal version of that nose ring and needless to say her sublime appearance is pleasing.
