A big fat Indian destination wedding in Auli has been the talk of the nation for all the right reasons. Two sons of South Africa-based businessmen recently got married in Auli on a whopping budget of Rupees 200 crores which left behind 4000 Kg of trash. Yes, we aren’t kidding. The wedding celebrations of Suryakant, son of Ajay Gupta, took place in Auli from June 18 to 20, while Atul Gupta’s son Shashank’s wedding was held from June 20 to June 22.

Check out the details about this grand wedding in Auli here.

Auli in Uttarakhand is a popular ski destination in India. All the wedding decor including the two grand wedding stages, a glasshouse and flowers came straight from Switzerland, turning the charming hill station into a dumping ground.

Prior to the wedding, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was also filed stating the extensive wedding preparations were damaging the environment. However, little was done to save nature and its beauty. Reportedly, the supervisor of Nagar Palika Parishad of Joshimath, Anil Kumar was given the task to clean the entire area after the wedding. He along with his team of 20 people had to clean tons of trash including petals, plastics, food, and much more waste that the guests left behind. Even, choppers were arranged to ferry the guests.

After the environmentalists raised their voice against lavish celebrations which risk the environment, the Gupta family has deposited INR 54,000 to the Municipal Corporation and also agreed to pay the entire cost of cleaning up after their 200-crore wedding in Auli which left the town with major waste management problems.

Well, it’s high time that everyone wakes up and stop harming nature in the name of celebration because nature has its own way of paying back!
