The Met Gala 2024 will celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ and the official dress code is ‘The Garden of Time.’

Met CEO Max Hollein revealed the theme – “The focus is on the question of, ‘What happens to an object when it enters our collection, which basically transforms it from a garment that was worn into an object that’s being shown?”

They had three options: they could follow a scientific or historical path, or they could take the literal route and draw inspiration for their style from clock faces around the world. The exhibit will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. In fact, spanning over 400 years of fashion history, these iconic pieces will include designs from – House of Worth, Dior, Schiaparelli, Anna Maria Garthwaite, Madeleine Vionnet, Alexander McQueen, Charles James, Norman Norell, Loewe, Nina Ricci and more.

Moreover, some garments that are too fragile to ever be worn again – such as a Charles Frederick Worth ball gown from 1877, will also be displayed via video animation, light projection, AI, CGI, and other forms of sensory stimulation.
