And it’s a happily ever after for Tista Das and Dipan Chakraborty, a transgender couple who just got married on Tuesday, 6th August 2019. This Kolkata based couple had announced their wedding in April this year making it the first-ever rainbow wedding in West Bengal.
Soon after the government had passed the Transgender Persons (Protection) Bill 2019 on August 5, 2019, this transgender couple decided to tie the knot in a traditional Bengali wedding. 38-year-old Tista is a popular face of the transgender community in Kolkata having worked as an actor in films and TV. She met 40-year-old Dipan a few years back and the two fell in love.
While Dipan’s family wasn’t a part of the wedding celebration, Tista had full support from her mother. Born as Sushanto Das, a man from a Kolkata suburb, Tista gave herself a new identity as a transwoman 15 years ago. She underwent a sex reassignment surgery in 2004 and since then there’s no looking back. According to Tista, she has achieved her identity as a woman, as a human being as she was not even considered as a human being before. For Dipan who was born as Dipannita, he is extremely lucky to have Tista as his wife and believes that getting married to her is the best day of his life.
