Looks like the wedding invites have had enough of bling and embellishments. The current season’s hot favourites are pastel hues combined with bold floral prints. Ashna Nayyar, Founder, Wedlock Invitations by Ashna Nayyar, sheds some light on this trend:
“Combining simplicity and elegance is the latest trend. There are are a lot of new trends that are making 2018 fresher than ever. The minimalism trend has finally made its way to wedding invitations, especially ever since Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma adopted this trend for theirs. Some of them even coordinate their invite with their outfits.”

Arushi, Founder, Invitations by Arushi, talks about her current assignment that has a flavour of this trend:
“I’m using a mix of different flowers to create a design, just like a bouquet of flowers is made of different flowers yet together they look stunning, as if they belong together.”
2. Theme-Based Pop Up Invites

While you might not get to see much of glitz in the wedding invites this year, the elaborate cut outs and intricate pop up designs are here to stay. Celebrity wedding invite designer, Puneet Gupta Invitations, shares the details of one such invite they created for their client:
“The design was based on a neoteric concept of 3D pop ups. Besides the fairytale theme interweaved in the invite, the actual wedding decor elements like Arabian hookah, orange and yellow lanterns, Arabian lamps were incorporated in the invite.”

The vast details are contained in a small space through pop up designs and hence, the couples are able to add a personal touch to it by adding the milestones of their relationship to it.
3. Reusable Invites

The reason why this trend is a hit among the couples is that it allows them to give their guests something that they will cherish forever. Mostly, it is the packaging of the wedding invite that can be reused even after the wedding is over.

Ashna Nayyar elaborates the thought process that goes behind creating such invites:
“Many clients these days ask for boxes that are reusable. So we have come up with a variety of wooden tea boxes, vintage handmade baskets and briefcases to cater to the needs of our clients. Most importantly, we make sure that the needs and preferences of every client are personally taken care of and each product is to their satisfaction.”
She gives details of one such wedding invite she created for a client:
“A lot of thought process goes into manufacturing products that suit the client’s personality because of which each product has its own identity. So recently a couple came to us that had a refined taste and wanted something sophisticated to be retained by their guests from the invite. So we created this elegant box with smooth finish at the edges and just a slight hint of gold in it. The cards inside too were in earthy tones keeping in mind the preference of the couple.”

Puneet Gupta designed the wedding invite for comedy queen, Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa, based on this concept only and he shares the whole idea behind it:
“Lingering on the idea of utility-based invites, we designed a nautical theme based invitation for Bharti and Haarsh’s wedding. From the wedding logo to the 3D pop-ups, every element is a reflection of their wedding destination. The invite beautiful blends three varied elements together- couple’s pre wedding shoot, 3D pop ups and a reusable rustic box. As the destination wedding happened in Goa, a wine bottle and a chunk of Kaju was sent along with it. To give a rustic feel, the wooden box was handpainted with utmost intricacy and detailing. The beach theme was further highlighted with the use of sea-shells, beach net and a classic water tube.”

The couples who wish to go a bit more extravagant, opt for multiple boxes with goodies and personalised favours packed in them.

Remember the standard ivory and gold wedding invitation cards that used to be prevalent long time ago? Well, the good old combo is back to give you a blast from the past this year, only with a contemporary touch this time.

Arushi, Invitations by Arushi, says:
“There are numerous conventional things that are making a comeback this year and this colour combination is one of those. A refreshing change you will find in this trend though is in the complexity of the design. While earlier the invites used to plain ivory card with a small print in gold at one corner, you can totally expect to see dense gold prints on ivory base this year.”
5. Colour Blast
