You’re getting married! This journey is new and exciting and the greatest adventure you’ll ever embark on. Having said that, you will not get a lot of alone time because me, myself and I will soon turn into me, my husband and us.
So before you take the plunge, you should plan a holiday by yourself, for yourself and… well, you get the gist of it.!
Here are some absolute reasons why you really need to think about this!
1. Me Time Before Shaadi Time.
When you’re planning a wedding, you already know that alone time ends when you step out of the shower. So wouldn’t it be nice to spend time with only you for a change?
2. Tune In To You. And Only You.
Instead of spending your energy trying to cope with other people’s moods and emotions, you will spend that energy on getting to know yourself better. It will also give you a chance to work on your shortcomings, which will help you create a stronger bond with your future husband.
3. Give Yourself Some Headspace.
Unplug from technology and focus on the world around you. It will leave you feeling both empowered and at peace. So you can take on the world and your big fat Indian shaadi when you’re ready to plug back in.
4. Fears? What fears?
When you’re on your own you’re no longer existentially dependent on others. You’ll face your fears and tackle them head on. You become more confident about the decisions you make, and lord knows you have to a lot of deciding when you get back to the real world.
5. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat.
Whether you’re lying on a beach chair with the sound of crashing waves, lost in a web of thoughts that add up to nothing in particular or singing out loud on a morning hike or meditating under the night sky, you will soon feel the weight of the wedding stress start to lift.
6. Strangers Are The Friends You Need Right Now!
Meeting new people is the best part about traveling alone. Before you know it, you will be sharing a bottle of Old Monk and a plate of hot momos with them. Strangers are never quick to judge, and the conversations will have cathartic powers.
7. Go On A Date With Yourself.
Soon, your house will transform into a shaadi ka ghar and you’ll be drinking, dancing and mingling all day, every day.
So before that happens, how about a date with yourself where you don’t have to make any conversation at all? So find a restaurant and take yourself to dinner.
When was the last time you ever did that?
8.You do it best, when you do nothing at all.
You can spend the entire day in bed, watching TV and eating French fries. And you don’t even have to brush your teeth. What a nice change from all the wedding diets and exercise routines you secretly hate.
9. Bye, Bye Fussy Pants.
Travel teaches you not to fuss over things. Even if you spend days planning the perfect itinerary, things might not go your way. And that’s OK. This will also be a great learning experience in case things don’t go just as planned on your big day. But it will still be the greatest day ever.
10. Tick Things Off Your Bucket List
If you want to climb a peak in Ladakh, or go deep-sea diving in the Andamans or skinny dip in an ocean or dance around a bonfire and howl at the full moon. Do it. This is your time, and your time only. And no one can take that away from you.
